Omg hiii!!

I'm Avery! It's a pleasure to meet you :3

Well, where do I even start?

Hi (again), the name's Avery (not really, but that's the name I go by online, duh).

21 years old, Polish... in college for biology, I just started doing this website redesign after defending my Licentiate thesis; think of it as a Bachelor's degree for an English-speaking country.

I study biology because I'm passionate about it, but I think I'm equally passionate about everything relating to computers and computer science, from hardware and low-level stuff up to — as can hopefully be seen — the frontest of front-ends, webdev.

I suppose part of this is due to just my strong desire to express myself, all this "indieweb"/"small web" stuff that you keep hearing about nowadays. It didn't cause me to make this, of course, but this is the umbrella it falls under nowadays. As can also hopefully be seen, unlike many of those projects, I'm not nostalgic for the really early Web, with the crunchy gifs and black backgrounds (though they have a lovely charm of their own), I'm nostalgic for the mid-to-late 2000s and a little bit of the early 2010s — something you'll hear called 🌐 Frutiger Aero nowadays.

To me at least, it represents a degree of... optimism, perhaps, or more accurately a desire for a clean, bright and happy future, as silly as that may sound in isolation; a desire to see the best in the world, in people, in what we're capable of...

As undeniably silly as it is to wax poetic about the "unbeatable human spirit" in the context of a website with clouds and bubbles as the background, I really do think there is something in it. Something to think about, anyway.
